Charles Leadbeater acknowledges entrepreneurs are in search of viable new business models

And this is why
Charles Leadbeater questions the impact of growing web connectivity. Will it bring us collective stupidness and thoughtlessness, or will it bring creativity, democracy and collaboration? The verbs Leadbeater uses most often are share, participate and collaborate. Sharing offers opportunities for creation and innovation, but it also brings dilemmas. Sharing leaves us more open to abuse and invasions of privacy. Participating is essential in working together, but brings with it the risk of a cacophony. Collaborating brings the power of the many but demands leadership and coordination, which is hard to realize in a self organized construction. Freedom versus control will be amongst the most important debates in our societies in the next few years.

Entrepreneurs and managers use business model design to discover where inside or outside their companies they can share, participate and collaborate. Their goal is to improve their cost structure and revenue streams in line with the multi dimensional values in their value proposition.

I believe Jeff Howe is in the game too

And he plays ball
Crowdsourcing is not about technology, Jeff Howe claims. Crowdsourcing is about the human behaviour engendered by technology. The resources in a crowdsourced business model are organically distributed. Clients become resources when they start participating in the development and creation of products. Technology is democratizing commerce. And crowdsourcing represents a radical shift in how many industries – especially those trafficking in information – do their work.

Combining business model design thinking with crowdsourcing, a typical value proposition will become more dimensional. Participation, inspiration, pleasure and rewards are all in the combined crowdsourcing and business modelling game.

I love business model design (and I think Clay Shirky loves it too)

Here is why
Clay Shirky states that a revolution is going on. He predicts an incredible growth in the number of groups that will be formed by using new media tools. More and new groups result in a greater spread of literacy and knowledge. This will fuel new professions, new business models and new kinds of value creation. Determining the net value of these innovations is problematic and can take place after the revolution at the earliest. The revolution is not only technological but also social by nature.

With business model design, you develop several business prototypes and predict potential cost structures and revenue streams. This gives a net value estimate a more solid business basis.
